a simple saturday.
although life is never that hard here, i really rarely just take it easy. i’m always moving. always going. always doing something. but tonight, michael and i decided to just settle in at a starbucks and relax for a while.
in a foreign country, where nearly everyone speaks a different language than you, it’s kind of rare that you experience even simple human connections. especially with strangers. but just now, as i sat in this big comfy chair, looking out the window, i noticed a mother with a little boy running around and a baby boy sitting in a stroller. the little boy was running in circles around his baby brother, and the baby was just going nuts over him. every time the little boy would run past him, he would just smile and laugh and yell. it was so cute, so i started smiling to myself. then, i looked up and noticed that the mom had seen me, and she was smiling in my direction. then the dad returned to her with the latte he had just bought her, glanced over at me, nodded and smiled, and they turned and walked away. i never thought that something so simple would give me such a feeling of comfort. but then again, i’ve never lived across the world, in a place far from everything familiar to me before. life is good today.
